Injury News

Ricky Rubio is expected to make his season debut on Saturday.

Carmelo Anthony (ankle) is questionable to play on Saturday, but all signs point to the Knicks resting him for at least one game.

Kevin Love bruised his thumb during Friday's game. X-rays were negative, but he may have a precautionary MRI and he didn't sound totally confident that he'll be able to play on Saturday. His owners should feel lucky if he avoided any ligament damage, even if he is forced to miss a game or two with the painful injury.

LeBron James (shoulder) didn't practice on Friday but fully expects to play vs. the Wizards on Saturday, and Dwyane Wade (neck) also appears good to go after briefly leaving Wednesday's game.

Jrue Holiday (foot) went through shooting drills on Saturday and is a game-time decision for Sunday.

In high-profile knee injury news...Dirk Nowitzki (knee) could begin practicing as soon as next week, John Wall has been cleared to "test" his knee on Monday but isn't yet practicing, and Pau Gasol (knees) appears doubtful for Sunday and iffy for Tuesday.

Anderson Varejao exited Friday's game with a left leg injury, but X-rays were negative and he soon returned.

Patrick Patterson has been diagnosed with a bone bruise in his right foot, and his return date is uncertain.
Patterson had an MRI on Saturday and he "will be out while further testing is conducted and a medical course of action is determined." It sounds like he's been playing through the injury for a while, which could explain his muted production of late, and a bruised foot is an injury that typically won't heal without rest. His absence should shift minutes to Marcus Morris and Greg Smith, and Terrence Jones is also being recalled from the D-League to address the Rockets' sudden lack of depth

If all goes according to plan, Dirk Nowitzki (knee surgery) could begin practicing with the Mavs as soon as next week.
Dirk has yet to test his knee with any hard cutting, but that appears to be the next step after he took part in pregame warmups Friday night. Once he gets cleared for that, he'll begin practicing. Dirk has said in the past he'll need a week or two to get into game shape, which could put his return date around New Year's Day

Steve Nash (leg) will go through a five-on-five contact practice on Thursday or Friday to determine his availability.
Nash is reportedly eyeing a Saturday return, and the plan to put him through a contact practice just before the game against the Warriors makes sense in keeping with that outlook. Even if Nash doesn't return on Saturday, he's getting very close to returning. Mike D'Antoni is probably counting down the hours until Nash is back in the starting five

John Wall opened up about his knee injury, "repeatedly referred to his injury as a 'stress fracture,' and said there is a "50-50 chance" of him making progress.
The Wizards have been "adamant" that Wall "neither had a stress fracture nor stress reaction," but Wall's words tell a different story. Wall said that he was "in the beginning stages of breaking my knee cap," but the team shut him down before he did any more damage. When asked if he would make progress after the swelling subsides, Wall said, "that's a 50-50 chance. You never know how it's going to go."
